Here’s another layer to the story about the woman who flashed Joakim Noah a middle finger after the Bulls’ star was ejected from Game 2 Wednesday: Filomena Tobias is the widow of hedge funder Seth Tobias, who mysteriously died in 2008. The story is a wild one, and the first place you should go is this New York Magazine piece from 2008. But first, a few words from her daughter, who spoke to the Sun-Sentinel:
“Yes, it’s my mom. She’s embarrassed, but she is being a good sport,” said the daughter told the Sun Sentinel on Thursday. “She was having fun just like any other fan. All she has to say is that people need to get a life.”
End of story? If only it were that easy. So, back to the NY
Magazine piece. Filomena Tobias is also known as Phyllis. Keep that in mind
when you read this snippet:
At 8:08 p.m., Tobias texted Borgerson to let him know he’d
gotten home safely. Seth and Phyllis had dinner together and then, according to
Phyllis, tried to have sex in the pool. They eventually gave up, Phyllis says.
Seth was too drunk.
Phyllis went inside and began her nighttime beauty regimen. After a shower, she walked downstairs and squinted through the gloaming. She thought she caught a glimpse of Seth swimming naked in the pool. Then she went back upstairs and got ready for bed. But shortly after midnight, Phyllis called Brett Borgerson’s wife and left a voice-mail that said, “Please call me back, Seth is acting weird. I don’t know if he’s passed out.”

But shortly after midnight, Phyllis called Brett Borgerson’s wife and left a voice-mail that said, “Please call me back, Seth is acting weird. I don’t know if he’s passed out.”
About half an hour later, she called 911. “I don’t know if my husband has passed out or what.” Her accent was thick, New Jersey. The dispatcher asked if her husband was breathing. “I don’t know, he’s turned over!” Phyllis screamed. “Please just send me somebody. He’s outside [in] the pool.” She could then be heard shouting at her floating husband, “Seth, don’t play with me.”
About fifteen minutes later, a Jupiter Police Department squad car arrived, and two officers shone their flashlights into the pool. The lights eventually settled on Phyllis. She was holding Seth in the shallow end. Paramedics arrived and began CPR. Geysers of water shot out of Seth’s lungs; rigor mortis had already set in. At 1:08 a.m., Seth Tobias was pronounced dead. He was 44.
Nikon Capture NX-D
Nikon Capture NX-D (ver1.0) to be released on July 15
Nikon will release the official version of Capture NX-D, its new RAW image processing and adjustment software application, for free download beginning July 15, 2014
June 26, 2014
TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce that it will release the official version (ver.1.0) of Capture NX-D, its new processing and adjustment software application for RAW images captured with a Nikon digital camera, for free download beginning July 15 (Tuesday), 2014.
Capture NX-D is a software application developed to allow users to enjoy full-scale development of RAW images with simple operations. It enables high-quality photofinishing of images captured in RAW format by Nikon digital SLR cameras, Nikon 1 advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses, and COOLPIX compact cameras that support this capability. The application will be available for download, free of charge, to allow those who own a Nikon camera to more thoroughly enjoy developing RAW images.
The official version of this application will reflect ideas and requests of users of the beta version with improvements to the user interface, and the ways in which adjustments are applied, for example, to white balance. Support for RAW images captured with the Nikon D810 digital SLR camera, which was announced today, has also been added. The improved Picture Control system, when working with Capture NX-D, allows for direct adjustments to images captured with the D810 and earlier Nikon cameras.
We also plan to effectively update software functions for better image processing and operation in response to many requests, including the addition of an automatic retouch brush.
Overview (Official Version, Ver. 1.0)

The new PictureProApps is a game changer for working photographers on the run and on deadline.
Two hours before a recent sporting event I found myself staring into the computer screen. I’m wondering how best to utilize my iPad mini, besides surfing the web and checking email. So I googled, ‘transmitting with your iPad’. Holy cow, there it is! I found, www.pictureproapps.com An app built for the working photojournalist.
After downloading the app I quickly noticed a few changes that would help improve some of the app’s features for my style of editing. For starters, the 0 to 100 scale for compressing the size of photos had no indicator for the resulting megabyte size of the image.
As a working photojournalist who is constantly working on a very tight deadline the 0 to 100 scale would not work for me. Even though I was extremely excited about this app. I decided to contact the software developer David Shields about changing some of the existing features and adding a few.
A few tweaks here and there made all the difference in the world. David came up with a design based on the browsers many photojournalists use on computers in the field.
Here is one photo I shot of Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade in action. Now I had to make a quick decision. Do I run back to the media center with all my gear to transmit the key play or do it faster using the new PictureProApps?
Since that day it’s now an easy choice with the iPad mini always tucked away in my Think Tank Photo Slim Changer belt pouch. I download the photos and tweak the captions using code replacement on assignment information already set up in the ITPC field.
This is the card reader (below) that I found works best with the iPad. Also I use Apple's "Lightning to USB camera adapter" to upload my photos to the iPad.
Code replacement is an automated tool that generates various collegiate and professional sporting rosters so photographers can upload the teams names and numbers quickly. Yes, the app includes this feature.
